Present at the event, the Head of the Secretariat of the Economic Council Ion Lupan mentioned the Council’s cooperation last year with the Diaspora’s representative in the UK, financial markets expert Dumitru Vicol in the process of drafting the COVID-19 Pandemic Impact Study on Economic Sectors and the Policy Matrix for Economic Recovery.

“For this exercise we thought at one point that we should have, in addition to the national consultants we hired, an expert with international experience, but who knows very well the economic and social specifics of our country. We found an expert who was originally from Moldova, but employed abroad, with whose help we managed to generate a broad set of proposals, some of which have already been accepted by Parliament. The other topics are waiting their turn and we will shortly resume examining them to see which of them remain current and can be further implemented”, said Ion Lupan.

In this context, the openness of the Economic Council Secretariat in creating a framework for collaboration with the BRD was mentioned. In particular, it is hoped to draw up a list of experts from the diaspora whom the Secretariat could call upon for consultancy services if necessary.

In response, the Director of the Diaspora Relations Office Nadejda Zubco thanked the Economic Council Secretariat for the initiative, underlining the interest of BRD in the proposal. “The Diaspora Relations Office is interested in harnessing the human potential in various fields and is following up the invitation, standing by the Economic Council. And immediately after the work of the Congress we will establish a constructive dialogue in this regard”, Nadejda Zubco added.

The Secretariat of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, funded by the UK Government’s Good Governance Fund, and the International Finance Corporation’s Investment Climate Reform Project funded by the Government of Sweden’s International Development Agency.

22 August 2021 – The Secretariat of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova together with the Diaspora Relations Office will draw up a list of diaspora experts from different fields who can be involved, if necessary, in the process of expertise on several reforms promoted by the Council.
